Girls Day
Over a week ago, my mom and I had a mini girls day out of town. We visited a couple thrift stores (Goodwill $1 day!), had a mini picnic outside (more so on accident than on purpose) and nearly got lost on some back country roads. It was great spending the time with my favorite lady. (Oh and thanks mom for buying me stuff. lol)

Party People
I mentioned earlier in the week that my sister, Rachael, turned 24. We kind of forgot to have a party so we threw something together and all put on our floral frocks, ate cake, watched Rach's favorite movies, and played a couple board games. The whole thing might have gotten a little out of control considering the fact that our couch kinda broke now.. lol
Oh well! You only get a birthday once a year, why not make it one to remember?!

They Say It's Your Birthday
![]() |
| 1. Rain - 2. My mom and I in the truck. - 3. The birthday girl and I! - 4. Fresh Goodwill store |
Today, August 27th, is my big sisters 24th birthday! That means this is her birthday week. We (the fam) kicked it off yesterday with a trip to the cinema out of town. It was awesome to see the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie on such a huge screen - plus it was hilarious and entertaining. Then we headed to a new Goodwill (like, brand brand new) that we didn't know anything about and ended the day at one of the biggest Targets I've ever been in. Overall it was a well spent rainy Sunday afternoon! Happy Birthday, Rachael!! Love ya sis. :D

Five For Friday: More Stuff I'm Itchin' To Thrift
Since my last "itching to thrift" post, I've actually managed to mark a few things off. It's so exciting to walk into a thrift store and to be able to check something off a list. It's makes it feel like you didn't completely waste your time in a store buying stuff didn't really need. However, a new season is about to arrive and my list is still really long. So here are 5 more things I am itching to thrift!
1. Tan and Black striped dress

I'm still kicking myself for passing one up at a garage sale one year ago.
2. Feminine varsity jacket

Kyla has had a big impact on me wanting this.
3. Skinny Red Belt

These are harder to find than you might think!
4. Cat Eye Sunglasses

The shape is just purr-fect.
5. Black Polka Dotted Tights

I've come across some close contenders, but never in my size. Bummer!
Is there anything you're hoping to come across on your next second hand adventure?

On An Island In The Rain
If you can't tell by either the pictures or the incredibly descriptive title; I was indeed on an island during the rain. Riveting commentary, I know! But really, the sun was playing peek-a-boo the entire day we were out of town shopping on Sunday. Being dressed vintage-y with pale skin + storm = me feeling like a spooky ghost just freaking people out.
(P.S. I started a Facebook page for my blog. 'Likes' are welcome!)

Secondhand Weekend
Saturday morning I hit up a few garage sales and then went out of town on Sunday and shopped in some familiar thrift stores. I came out of this weekend with a whole new load of Baby-sitters Club books, an awesome striped shirt, and a free vintage magazine (long story). I'd call it a success!

Five For Friday: Favorite Movies
Friday just happens to be my favorite day to pop in a movie. I'm old fashioned and rather enjoy watching movies on the weekend compared to the weekdays. Below is a list of the top 5 contenders that I choose from to watch on a regular basis. If movies say something about a person, then the theme you'll form is that I love comedies! I'd watch a comedy any day over everything else. For your viewing pleasure, here are my top five favorite movies!

1. Adventures in Babysitting
I discovered this movie in high school. One day while walking through the thrift store, I took a chance on getting it since I always noticed they had at least 5 VHS copies. My only regret is not buying it sooner.

2. Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead
Oh, look, another babysitting movie! And it has one of the same actors from the other one.(Keith Coogan, for the curious) I guess I can just relate to things of the babysitting genre!

3. Heavyweights
I remember watching Heavyweight as a kid when it would re-run on Fox. (which was all the time!) It stood the test of time when I bought it for myself years later. As the cover says, it's hilarious.

4. Bushwhacked
This is an early 90's comedy that I don't think has ever quite hit a mainstream audience. None of my friends know what it is! It's got Daniel Stern (you know, the robber from Home Alone) and he accidentally leads a scout troop into the woods. I don't think it gets enough recognition for how funny it is.

5. The Sasquatch Gang
As the cover mentions, this is from the creators of Napoleon Dynamite, so it's jokes are a little strange and subtle. (I actually really love that) But it does have some big names in it to keep you interested. (hello, Justin Long and Jeremy Sumpter!) I have a huge love for all things Bigfoot so this movie is always a Friday night go-to.

Maxi Dress Kind Of Day
Today is a maxi dress kind of day. I'm still trying to adjust the pills the doctor put me on and they have given me a slew of new symptoms, ailments, and stomach aches. I'm at the point where if I leave the house then I'm for sure going to dress as comfy as I can!

Apparitions
I did not actually see any apparitions this weekend unless you count the ones I watched on Ghost Adventures. I did, however, end up at a family reunion at a biker bar with the name "Apparitions". Unfortunately it's not a side I know at all so I spent my time with those two folks in the picture - my brother and sister whom I see almost everyday! lol
(Sorry I have no cool ghost stories from the place, but trust me when I tell you it's a very dark and strange place!)
Outfit details - Top, $3 (thrifted) - Jeans, $4 (Wal-Mart old) - Necklace, won in a giveaway - Sandals, $5 (Wal-Mart old) - Floral purse, $2 (thrifted)

Five For Friday: Beauty Review
One of the perks of having the beauty website, SkinCareRx.com, sponsor me is getting to try out new products! Since I've explained my troublesome skin in the past, I thought it would be beneficial to share my thoughts on what I got and do 5 quick reviews (so I don't take up to much of your time!)
Philosophy: Take A Deep Breath (sent as a sample & I can't find it on the website)*
Pros: A light moisturizer that easily absorbed into my skin. Smelled pleasant. Is the perfect size for traveling.
Cons: My skin still had dry spots on it, so I would recommend this as a back-up cream or something you'd put on just at night to keep the skin hydrated.

Pros: It's an all naturual nail polish (nothing harsh!). The bottle is super cute.
Cons: I was hoping for a cotton candy pink sort of color and ended up with more of a clear top coat. The formula is crazy thin and not really worth it.
Pros: The green hue of this cream perfectly covered up any redness issues I was having (which is quite a bit!) It was light and didn't take much time to soak in, which is great 'cause I hate waiting for creams to dry.
Cons: It did make my skin a little pale. Definitely needs to be used with your regular foundation on top!

Pros: Cute packaging. Wonderful scent. The moisturizer soaked in quickly. My skin felt very soft after applying it. I really loved this product! I'm picky about moisturizers and have a hard time finding a good one, but this one gets my approval.
Cons: I think this products only downfall is the price. I currently use a pricey moisturizer from another brand, but that still only tops out at around $20-$30.
Pros: I used this twice in the same week and it managed to tackle some stubborn flakey spots on my scalp. Tar shampoo is fantastic once you're able to get past the smell. lol
Cons: The smell. But that's just tar shampoo for you!
Overall I am very much enjoying the products. The shipping has been quick and the help I receive with making the orders is wonderful! :)
