Five For Friday: Thrift Tips

As an avid thrifter, it's surprising I have never written a post about how to gain skills. I figure there is already a lot of that out in the blogsophere, but today I would give it a go with my thoughts on thrifting!

No need to scratch your head in question, I will explain!
It can be overwhelming and exciting to walk into a thrift store and fall in love with everything you see. But you should go in with an idea of who you are and what your style is so you don't make purchases that you'll later regret. On the other hand, you may do enough thrifting that you begin to shape and understand yourself better. So know yourself to thrift and thrift to know yourself.

This is important for a few reasons.
If you are with a like-minded individual, then you can help each other out by picking up items the other one might want. Thus making shopping go faster!
Another person is great to help justify a purchase and give you a second opinion on things.
Plus, everything is more fun with another person, right?

I'll be the first to say that I want to go into a thrift store with a list and be able to find everything before I check out. But that's not how second hand stores work! It's ok to have a list, but set your expectations of what you'll find really low, that way you'll be more than pleased with your findings.

Thrift stores are like candy bars. You have just one, but it was so good that you want another. At first it feels really selfish, but after a few, you become satisfied. (note: it doesn't have to be candy, it could be another helping of your favorite meal or something else really scrumptious.)
But the point is - one thrift store is never enough! They're all so different, so you should make a day of going to multiple facilities and explore and have fun!

I'm cheap. I like to save a buck no matter what. Thrift stores already save you money, but there are more ways to save. Do what I do and sign up for newsletters with info about upcoming sales, shop for colored tags, take a stroll through the clearance rack, ask for student/senior/anyone discount. But do not be disappointed if you end up spending more than expected - these stores donate to good causes and support people in need. Your money is always going somewhere good!

Time Flies

It's crazy to me that these pictures are from a month ago. It was the last day I was in my old house, to be exact. Where did the time go?! Sometimes it feels like I haven't been there for a year and other times a day.

*end longing of yesteryear dialogue*

Brand new week, but some super old photos. I did some intense shopping over the weekend and did not wear anything particularly awesome. So I thought; why not start posting really old outfits I have stored on my computer from before I moved? So, here we are now!

Five For Friday: Summer To-Do List

It seems as though everyone is making a to-do list for summer, so I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon. Since this is "Five For Friday", I've only included 5 things, which is reasonable for me. If I could add one thing, it would be to try and dress awesome. Which I clearly am doing today as seen in the quick outfit photo below. :)

The Grass Is Greener On The Other Side

Here are my official first outfit photos in my new backyard. Soak it in because this will be the first and last time you see it!  I now have neighbors who are outside for cookouts with friends - none of that private backyard stuff. I guess that calls for lots of summer adventures so I can take lots of pictures in new places, right?!

Hot Pink

Happy Fathers Day!
I took a cue from the hot weather and decked myself out in hot pink - from my lips to my toes! I also went for a more vintage look today since my dad is mighty old. I figured it seemed appropriate for the time we were hanging out together. And when I say hanging out, I don't mean kicking back and playing video games. I mean family meal from Pizza Hut, eating brownies, and visiting the location of these photos. Pretty cool day!

Outfit details - Skirt, $1 (thrifted) - Top, $3 (thrifted by my sister) - Sandals, $2 (thrifted) - Sunglasses, .50 cents (thrifted) - Belt, formerly my great grandma's - Bracelet, gift - Earrings, handmade - Lipstick, 511B by Wet'n'Wild

Five For Friday: What I Love About My New Room

With everything else getting in the way, I've yet to talk about my new house! Actually, it's a duplex. But it's where I'm currently living. Today I really want to share with you my 5 favorite things in my new room. So in no particular order, here's the line-up.

1. My new bedding
I splurged on something new. This was too cute and matched my current decor perfectly. I love it!

2. Window Seating & Sloped Ceiling
If you follow my Pinterest, you'll notice my obsession with sloped ceilings and window seats. I have both... kinda. This is a self-made window seat and there is a sloped part of the ceiling. (it's an old house, so the ceilings are like 12 feet tall. No joke)

3. Huge Closet Space
My closet space seems to get bigger and bigger with each house I move into. Crazyness!!

4. My Girl
This is my dress form, Viola. She is named after a completely separate mannequin head of the same name. She stands in my window all day without complaining. She wears all the same clothes that I do and is one rad lady!

5. Morning
A time of day can be a favorite feature, ok? I can't explain it to you or show you clearly in a picture, so here is a video which explains why mornings are pretty cool. (and that's coming from a night owl!)

Slow Ride

After a few days spent with my cousins, aunt, and uncle; it was time to say farewell. We faced 30 more hours on the road to get back home. I'd like to be able to say that the trip back felt shorter.. but come on, 30 hours in a car with 2 old people?! That just was not going to happen. Luckily I was able to break out my electronics entertainment and tune out the complaints about weather, traffic, and gas prices.
After a restful night at an awesome Motel 6 and a couple stops at my favorite thrift stores I never get to, we finally made it home safe and sound!
