Beachy Keen

This post is indeed named after a blah looking wallpaper from the Sims 2. What can I say, I'm obsessed!

While this outfit doesn't include any blah - this was a fairly blah looking day. I decided to jazz things up by trying out my new white pants and throwing on a bunch of colorful extras. (in case you were wondering, that's not a shadow person behind me in the last picture, the sun actually did shine for a millisecond)

Outfit details - White pants, Seventh Avenue (buy here, not worth the price imo) - Top, $2 (thrifted) - Belt, .25 cents (thrifted) - Shoes, $2 (thrifted) - Ring, payed with a gift card (InPink.com, no longer available) - Lipstick, 511B by Wet'n'Wild

Just An Old Fashioned Blog Post

It's one thing to wear clothes that almost transport you back to a different era or create a character outside of yourself - but it's another thing to get to capture it in a photo. I wore this outfit for some backyard lounging a few weeks back and just loved the retro vibe it gave off. I'm so delighted that it shone through in the photos - after all, I'm sure this backyard has seen all kinds of eras!

It wasn't very long ago when I didn't know I could wear clothes such as this. High waisted, body hugging, vintage, say what?! There is a great message out in the blogging world that out to be taught in the real world - wear what you love, as long as you feel good in it. Don't mind what the world thinks of you. I'm so glad to have this knowledge and to be able to discover this whole other side of my style & me.

Outfit details - Shorts, free (second hand) - Top, $2 (garage sale) - Belt, $1.25 (thrifted) - Scarf, .50 cents (thrifted)

Five For Friday: To Pack

By the time you are reading this blog post, I will be heading down a long, never ending highway on a 26 hour road trip to Idaho with my dad and grandma.(follow me on Twitter for sporadic updates)
As I've been preparing this week (for both moving and packing for a trip!) I've compiled a short list of handy things to have around at all times. I feel these items apply to both long trips and over night visits. (both of which I will be doing a lot of in the next couple of weeks)

1. A camera!!
A camera is good for everything. For capturing things that shouldn't be forgotten, remembering neat places, or freezing a perfect moment in time. (I will have 3 forms of cameras I will be traveling with. 4 if you count my laptop webcam!)

2. A diary/travel log
Find time for a pen and paper session (in the car or right before falling asleep in a bed) and jot down funny stories, doodles, or whatever strikes your fancy. (I DIY'd a travel log with lots of "personality" - every page is unique)

3. An extra bag
If you can, a plastic or unloved bag for throwing wet and dirty items into. And my favorite - an extra bag for all the goodies you will collect on your travels.(it certainly comes in handy)

4. Extra (charged) batteries
I used to be really bad with this one. But if you're without a charger/electricity for days, then this is totally essential. I will carry around 2 back-up batteries for both my phone and camera.

5. Your own pillow/blanket
For crashing on a friends couch or catching some zzzz's in the front seat of a vehicle. Have a little comfort of home!

Easy Breezy

I love this breezy jacket so much! Definitely worth grabbing at the last second at the thrift store.

Speaking of last second, I'm actually in the middle of packing for a big road trip out to Idaho tomorrow! I'm going to have ghost posts while I'm on the road. Yes, I contacted some of my old ghost buddies to fill in for me while I'm away. Or, you know, I just pre-set some posts as to not leave my blog to rot away like a ghost town. Ok, too much ghost banter! I hope you enjoy what I've set up and I will see you all on the flip side. :)

Made In The Shade With Lemonade

I was quite busy over the weekend. But not too busy to stop for a big cup of lemonade and hang out in my backyard. You know, while it still is my backyard!

I sure will miss having such a lovely yard. And really a lot of things about this house. (except the fact that it does not have a shower!)  Oh well, life would be pretty boring if nothing ever happened to shake things up, amirite?

The Storm Before The Calm

I was thinking of the phrase "calm before the storm" and was reminded of the Bible passage Psalm 107: 28-31. It's a quick message that talks about God being in control of the storm and bringing peace afterwards.

So I was thinking! What if there really isn't a "calm" that takes over before a storm, but rather a storm has to pass in order to feel peace? In my own life, for example, there is so much hustle and bustle going on with making plans and moving and stuff that comes along with it. I can't remember the "calm" that happened before it all started, it just kind of came, like a storm out of nowhere. And when it's over, and we're hopefully in a house, then the calm will be brought on. I think that for most people, they are almost always in constant "storm" mode, so it makes sense that they are always seeking the calm. Right?

If you're wondering how in the world these pictures tie in - it's because they were taken during a mighty wind that then resulted in a storm.

Feather & Lace

Here is a good twist on the leather & lace combo - feather and lace! I'm so delighted to be bringing my feather print tank top here to the blog. I think it's the coolest shirt I own!

Mothers Day was very special! The day started with a lovely mini-family breakfast, where I met an old fashioned buggy. That was followed by the incredibly gory Johnny Depp flick, Dark Shadows. That movie does not get my recommendation. A little lunch and some Culvers frozen custard later and we called it a day!

Big week coming up. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers - our family heard we can stay in this house until the end of the month, but we still haven't found a place to move to. Thank you so much for all the goodness from everyone so far. It's very appreciated!

Outfit details - Feather tank top, $3 (thrifted) - Skirt, $1 (garage sale) - High heels, $2 (thrifted) - Earrings, gift from my aunt - Cardigan, $1 (Wal-Mart, old, previously long sleeve) - Belt, .25 cents (thrifted)

Five For Friday: Itching To Thrift

Over on my style Tumblr, I've got a not so regular feature called Itching To Thrift. I post about things that I've been searching for at thrift stores (or retail, I'm not picky) to buy. I thought it would be great to share a snippet of my list here for Five For Friday. So, here are 5 things I am itching to thrift!

1. Black High Waisted Shorts
They are sneaky! I've been looking since Autumn and cannot find them.

2. Floral Romper

My aunt sent me one in a size too small, so now it's my mission to find a proper fitting one.

3. Skull Print Scarf
This is a recent addition to the list. It's one of those classic (if skulls can be classic) scarves that I can't believe I don't already own.

4. Blush Colored  Blazer
I have a favorite thrift store that always carries a plethora of blazers, but I've yet to find this perfect one.

5. Black Maxi Dress
I actually had found one at a thrift store, but for whatever reason, didn't buy it. Totally kicking myself now!

Is there anything you're itching to thrift?

Smiling Is My Favorite

I did not realize how much I smile until I was picking out pictures for this post. I mean, my smile is my best accessory, so it makes sense that I put it front and center for pictures.

I have a little life update as well. Unfortunately, it does not involve smiling. I will be moving in the next week with my mom. Well, not so much with my mom. We're unable to find a house to rent (you'd think months of searching would help, right?) so we'll be splitting up and staying with family. In one way or another, I will find access to internet (I will craft it together myself, if I must!) so I will definitely maintain my social status online. haha

Outfit details - Top (Seventh Avenue) - Skirt, $4 (thrifted) - Jean jacket, .25 cents (thrifted) - Tights, $1 (Wal-Mart old) - Flats, $6 (Dollar General old) - Sunglasses, .50 cents (thrifted)

*EDIT* Finding a house is still up in the air. We have a whole team of people out scouting houses for us - there is still a chance my mom and I can move together. Just to clear things up, I am still moving no matter what.
