Tricks & Treats!

I'm going to be brief - I just couldn't wait until tomorrow (when I actually have time) to post my Halloween costume! This is my costume worn for the big day as I am handing out candy, which is what I'm doing right now but am taking a quick blogging break. haha

Can you guess who I am? She happens to ride around in a Magic School Bus with a bunch of rowdy children. I am Miss Frizzle! Since I'm a book/educational costume this year, I stopped by the library to say hello to my friends there. All the ladies working loved it. The childrens librarian asked me which story I based it off of and I did not pick one. So we named it Autumn Adventure. I think that would be grand!

This was a DIY heavy costume - so I'm totally going to post some tutorials, from when I was making it, just to help the next poor person who decides to be Ms.F. I sadly didn't find much help on the web. :(

Outfit details - Dress & collared shirt, both thrifted and already in my closet - Shoes, already from my closet (Seventh Avenue) - Belt, 25 cents (thrifted) - Liz, the lizard in the bus, $1 (Dollar Tree) - Bus is my own from childhood!

And also today is my dad's 63rd birthday! Everyone seems to be making a big deal about it, I was at a parade where everyone was celebrating.. oh wait, maybe they were celebrating Halloween? ;)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE!!

Blazing On

It's funny that it's now the end of the week and these photos were from the beginning. Oops! To be honest, pretty much every outfit from the last 2 weeks was not posted anywhere near the time of capturing it. I really thought with the move, my blogging would slow down, but it actually hasn't! So now I just ended up with a bunch of extra photos lying around waiting for their turn show up on here. It's better to have too much content than not enough, amirite?
Looking back at this now I think it would be more rad to try this dress with a more shrunken blazer and some heels. But that's what blogging is good for, pointing out your mistakes so you can fix them next time!

Outfit details - Dress, less than $1 (thrifted) - Blazer (thrifted for me) - Tights $? (Wal-Mart old) - Flats, $6 (Dollar General) - Necklace, $1 (Bargain Depot) - Earrings, handcrafted.. finally got in some creative time this week. :)

While I still may or may not have your attention. I would like to let my readers know that I started a real live Tumblr that matches with this blog. (rather than the link I pass along which is just filled with 80's and 90's nostalgia junk that I post)
This one will hopefully be filled with more girly-fashion related things, extra outfits, inspiration, whatever! So go on over and say hello to.. Another Old Story.

Snakebite

I can't believe Halloween is only in 5 days! Eek! It's costume crunch time. I've had mine in mind since the Spring but have yet to thrift it. How does that happen?! Hopefully I can get some second hand time this week and find what I'm looking for. If not, then I've got a major DIY mess on my hands. (ok, I've actually begun to plan the DIY back-up... but I'd still love to find what I'm looking for!)
Anyone care to share what they're being for Halloween? I'm pretty secretive about mine as it was demonstrated last year. haha
I will say, however, that my costume is another red head! I will be dying my hair and I hope it turns out better than last year. *crosses my fingers*
Outfit details - Chambray top, $12 (Amazon old) - Jeggings, $20 (Wal-Mart old) - Scarf, ?? - Boots, $15 (K-Mart) - Necklace, $1 (Bargain Depot old) - Fab snake bracelet, gift from my sister - Skinny black belt (from an old vest)

Shinedown

I am really loving my new backyard! At my old house, there was not a single bush or tree to shade the grass or hide from the neighbors. But here, it's completely surrounded and [almost] private from everyone!
I did however run into some of the neighbors while trying to get these pictures at sunset. It was an unexpected sunset that happened at the end of a cloudy day. Barely enough light for a picture but I made it work. All the while there were kids running around on the other side of the bushes, a couple adults raking leaves and pushing them into the ditch behind me, and a pesky dog that kept barking at me and the owner trying to find the source (spoiler alert: it was me and he found me. that was awkward)
But even with the privacy/no privacy - I still really love this yard! It's gorgeous and the sun shines so perfectly through the foliage at all times of the day. There really is not bad time to take pictures - it's a photographers dream!

Outfit details - Striped tee, $0 (hand me from family friend) - Dress, $3 (thrifted) - Tights, ? (Wal-Mart) - Old man cardigan, $3 (thrifted) - Mocs, $33 (Wayfair.com) - Owl hat, gift from my sister (Thanks, Rach!)

A New Day

This whole unpacking and re-arranging thing is starting to get old. I will be SOOO thankful when everything gets sorted out.
One big thing I'm looking forward to (besides having internet) is getting my hobby room all set up. The purpose of opening up an Etsy shop was not to sell a bunch of old stuff (although it is fun) I really wanted to create my own jewelry! But with all of my craft supplies being stored up in boxes most of the summer, I haven't had a chance to do much creative work. That should be changing soon!

The only really "complete" room right now I have to share is the bathroom. I will gladly post pictures of my bathroom. haha That kind of sounded weird... oh well!

(obviously my side of the bathroom as proof by the owls and ladybugs that I collect!)

It's Our Time

If you missed my post on Monday, allow me to inform you - I am moving out with my mom. This is the the reasoning behind the move (most of it anyways). I will try to keep it as brief as I can.

This move has been a long time coming. Probably about 10 years!
I did not grow up in a perfect home (which I'm sure most of you can relate). My mom and I have never been very close to my dad. Most of my friends have never even seen my dad or knew that I had one! Through my teen years I became very close to my mom and I fully realized how much sadness she contained from all those years living with my dad.
So for a long time now I have been praying that, that would change and things would improve.

Over the Summer, my prayers were answered! A client my mom had been working for was moving far, far away and was leaving her house behind (to be sold). My mom had a talk with her family and they agreed to let us rent it.. but it's still up for sale. So now we are living on our own! It's a little scary knowing at any moment someone could see the house and snatch it away from us. I don't believe that will happen though, it's quite a fixer upper! Right now we are just doing minimal work to make it livable. One thing we are missing is a shower... who would want to live in a place without a shower?! haha
I do believe having some space will improve my attitude towards my dad and let my mom have some space and let her finally be happy! Thank you for bearing with me as I go through this time - hopefully things will get back to running smoothly soon. I do know that after moving my entire closet (and getting a bigger one!) I've seen my clothes in a whole new way. :)

I will do my best to post a little something on Friday with interior house pictures and maybe an outfit. I cannot wait to catch up on blogs when the internet gets hooked up, hopefully by next Monday! See you all later!

The Next Chapter: Turning Over a New Leaf

I've been sitting on a secret for quite awhile. At least half the summer and now here into fall. It's the secret that landed me in a mess of stress....
I'm moving! Well, my mom and I are moving. I had to wait until we were officially and fully in the home and now we are!!
This is an incredible blessing and a great story of having faith in God and praying for many years that this would happen. I'm ecstatic about moving. To know me in life is to know that I love change, so yes, awesome!

What does this mean for my blog? I've got an awesome backyard (which I've secretly snuck into a few outfit posts that none of you would have thought twice about). As well as other photo locations like a new hobby room for myself, a new bedroom, a dining room (never had one of those), and a breezeway!! (never had one of those either)

I'm going to write up a longer post about some details of the move, like the big question.. why now? I obviously can't post all details, but just enough to inform my online friends. Annnd I would also like to hook you all up with some pictures of my new room, which I hope to have stocked and decorated as soon as possible.

I really hope to start getting dressed up like a normal person soon. I'm sicking of living in sweats like the pictures above show. lol

Orange Ya Glad It's Autumn

My life has been a little hectic lately and it took a toll on my health. (small, but, it happened) I posted all about it over here on my Tumblr.

But that is not the point of this post! I actually just have been looking for distractions all week. One of these distractions is getting dressed up and participating in EBEW. Which happens to be DIY themed. And that just happens to be something I like a lot!

I just chose this floral tunic that was previously a dress and did a trick and turned it temporarily into a skirt. That's like double DIY, right?!

Outfit details - Skirt/tunic (moms from the 90's) - Orange top, $4 (thrifted from my vacation) - Tights, I've got some many I don't even know where they are coming from.. - Belt, $1.25 (thrifted) -  Necklace, $0 (vintage, from somebodys junk they left behind after a move) - Leopard print flats, $7 (K-Mart old)

Celebration of Life

On Monday, we lost the life of a family member. To me he was my great uncle. To my mom he was more than just an uncle, he was much more of a father.
The last time I saw him was in the middle of summer. My mom and I stopped while we were in town garage saling and he was doing yard work. There were usually 3 places you could find him; out in the yard, fiddling with tools in his shed, or clipping coupons at the kitchen table.
To the people closest with him - this is a big loss. His death was completely unexpected. He started his morning with his wife (my very lovely great aunt) and while in the middle of doing something, he just slipped away. It was said that he suffered a massive heart attack.

As strange as it may be, these photos are my outfit I wore to the funeral. It's not often you go to (or want to go to) funerals, but it's an occasion where you want to look appropriate and wear something that matches with the occasion.
So I post this for 2 reasons. To shape your idea of funeral attire (I know there will be a time when you're scrambling to know what to wear) and also to share what has been going on with my life lately.

Thanks for stopping by and for catching up on my life. I think it would be appropriate to end this with the most over-shared quote from the late Steve Jobs. (also a loss to many! RIP Steve)

-- "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life."

Outfit details - Lace dress, $1 (garage sale) - Tights, $5 (Wal-Mart, old) - Shoes $? (Payless, old) - Ring (from my aunt many years ago) - Belt, $0 (from an old vest)
