Kick Off

Today truly felt like the unofficial kick off of Summer! The temp was like 100 degrees and SUNNY!
You know what I did? Sat in my room with the fan blowing on me, babysitting my Sims, and catching up on the episodes of Huge that I missed. I live such an exciting life. I had somewhat of an excuse, I woke up with a major sore throat. I had gotten one (week long) two weeks ago. My body just hates me for socializing with friends.
I don't think I can top all that good stuff (ha) so I'm just going to work on some stuff I've been putting off.
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!

Outfit details - Scarf, 5o cents (Estate Sale) - Tank, $1 (Wal-Mart old) - Shorts, $3 (thrifted) - Necklace, $1 (Bargain Depot, so long ago) - Crazy how Summer clothes cost less than Winter ones, amirite?!

Factoids

About forever and a day ago I was nominated for two awards by two blogging friends. (Isabella of Isabella's Fashion and Brooke of Pretty Penny Mae)
Here I am just now getting around fulfilling them. I carefully thought out 7 facts about me and my character, not simply that my favorite color is yellow or that I have curly hair. I really wanted to showcase something about me as a person, not quite just random facts about my life. It's a little lengthy, so I wouldn't make you read it, just if you want to learn a bit about me. If you rather I remain a mysterious person behind cute clothes then go for it!
1. I use to have a huge interest in the paranormal. I still love ghost stories, but I don't let them get to me like I did when I was younger. Nowadays, I watch an episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark before going to bed. It's enough scary-stuff for me. (I link'd that for you so you can join in on my late night festivities.)

2. I absolutely love board games!! I wish I could play them everyday, all day. My favorites are nerdy word games like Scrabble, Boggle, and Scattegories. Although my huge stack of 80's and 90's girl games (Mall Madness, Girl Talk, Secret Diary, etc) takes a close second! I would much rather have a game night than a movie night. Just fyi. ;)

3. The blog name "An Old Story" has absolutely nothing to do with books. I'm actually not much of a reader outside of my Bible. I've explained it before and it's a simple concept; it's about the second hand clothes that I wear that come with an old story. My life does not revolve around clothes, but my blog does. That is something important to remember about me. I'm certainly not a shallow person, but I'm also not the deepest ocean in the world. This blog is about clothes and a quick telling of a story that was made in that outfit. (I choose not to over share every detail of my life whether on here or other social networking sites. I gotta have some secrets!)

4. I'm a very positive person. I don't see a point in complaining about everything little thing in my life. If I can only see the negative, then my life would become very sad. But it's similar with only thinking positively, because you can see things as being so great and you actually become very blinded by your imperfections. I always try to keep a balance with an emphasis on the glass half full.

5. I love spontaneous adventures with my friends! But more of lately, with my mom. She used to live a gypsy-ish life and she knows how to pack up and leave and say goodbye to everything just to try something new elsewhere. I certainly have that spirit in me!

6. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a writer SO bad. I had notebooks all over the place and was always scribbling and drawing. My mom still has all the books I "published" as a kid. I still think it would be neat to write children's stories. I will always be that little kid who has notebooks all over the place. (so it might actually just look like I hoard notebooks, fer real though, they're all filled up.)

7. Sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my life (kind of). I was not one of those eager high school students who had a ten year plan. While my friends are all going to college and having double minors and double majors and dating and having huge social lives. I'm just a kid living with no plan. But I enjoy being different than them. What would be the fun in life if everyone lived the same way? (although my friends disagree with me all the time)
I like the thought of no plans and you can be free to go about and do what you want. Not being tied down to responsibilities like school and jobs. (that sounds like such a hippie statement, I don't mean it like I don't care about life though, hopefully you understand!)

THE END!!! Thanks for reading, now I'm going to be a jerk and not pass on either of the awards. Mostly because I can't come up with anyone that doesn't already have either one on their blog.

Out Of This World!

(my attempt at modeling and trying something different. haha)
I've been crafting since yesterday and whipped up another galaxy tee and recycled some pieces to fashion this necklace. I ended up liking the way they looked together and wore them today to some garage/estate sales.

As soon as I added the sunglasses to my look, my mom said "Oh, am I going out with a movie star?" - to my mom, adding sunglasses makes you an instant celebrity. I made fun of her for it the rest of the day by calling out strangers in their cars with sunglasses on as being celebrities-in-hiding.

Outfit details - Tee, DIY - Necklace, homemade - Scarf, 50 cents (thrifted) - Sunglasses, 50 cents (thrifted) - Twisted ring, 50 cents (thrifted) - Round black ring, homemade - Star ring, $1 (Claire's old) Cardigan, $1 (Wal-Mart old) - Jeans, $12.50 (F21.. found out they don't sell them anymore, how unfair! I want to buy like 20 of them instead of re-wearing this pair over and over again.)

A White Wedding

Hello blogland!! I feel like I've had quite a weekend.
On Friday I helped out with my friends wedding rehearsal and set-up and joined them for the dinner. On Saturday they got married! It was amazing!
At the reception they had a photo booth that I was the photographer for, it was quite a hit. As you'll notice, I was sure to wear a tiny camera necklace. I'm a sucker for following a theme.
Sunday I expected to be productive and was certainly not. I pretty much lost so much sleep over the weekend that I was sluggish the whole day. And my mom and I surprised my sister with a brand new laptop, so I helped/played with that most of the day. (it was a thank you gift for her for helping my mom out when her wrists were broke. My gift is the computer I'm on right now, we bought a new one for the family and I get the old one! I'm excited about it.)

I've got a busy week ahead of me, lots of babysitting and running errands and graduation parties this weekend! Oh my, don't you just love graduation season?!
Farewell everyone!

Outfit details - Dress can be bought here or a very similar (probably the same) one here for cheaper - Tights, We Love Colors (color - Charcoal) - Heels, Payless many years ago - Necklace, $5 (Wal-Mart, can be bought currently in stores) - Headband, homemade with some rope and a vintage belt buckle - Cardigan shrug thing, thrifted for free

Old Fashioned

Well, this week I have bit the bullet and bought that dress online! Then today I wandered into my favorite thrift store and hanging on the rack was the absolute most perfect seersucker dress... in a size 6. Well as evident on my blog; I'm no where near a size 6. But my sister is and when I later called her and told her about, she made me go back and buy it for her. It looks so pretty on her! Tomorrow my dress should be here and I'm so nervous of how it will look. But everyone goes through that buyers remorse online, right?!

I should probably say a little something about this outfit. I've seen sooo many bloggers looking chic in silky over-sized collared tops and I happened to find this one at a church rummage sale and could not pass it up! This is the first of many outfit ideas I have floating around in my head and luckily the weather is sunny and Spring (not hot!) so this worked out well to run errands.

Outfit details - Cat necklace, given to me from an Aunt - Hat, found - Belt, free - Top, $1 (rummage sale) - Sneakers, $11 - Jeans, $12.50 (F21)

Shiny Happy Things

Woohoo, another car shot! With Blogger having it's little issue this week and the incredible heat we had, I didn't bother to post a thing. But here's a quick something!
I guess the only thing in my life you missed is that I gave up coffee this week (it's weird to me to drink a hot beverage in the heat) and I've been going through major withdrawals with headaches and sleepiness, but I think that'll be over soon, right?!

And oh my goodness!!! I'm so flippin' excited for next weekend. Two of my very good friends are getting married! That would be exciting enough, but they have asked me to help with video taping the ceremony and then at the reception I will be running a photo booth. Ahh, I love photo booths! I want one at my wedding. haha
Since about January I've been looking for my outfit for this event. I got a certain dress stuck in my hair (pretty much this) and I cannot find it for the life of me in a price that I would pay. But if it really gets down to it (and it kind of is) I will splurge for it online. I just think it will positively perfect to dress up for this morning wedding and also be fun for frolicking in the summer. I attempted to look for it once more while I was out today but couldn't; so I came home with a ring and a cd I probably don't need. ;)

Oh! One last thing that was cool this week.. I received my cocktail ring that Louise of Coffee and a Cardigan gave away last month. It's really adorable and if I can, I will find a way to match it to my outfit for the wedding!

The Pretender

Today I woke up hot, so I decided to make the best of it! I tamed the mane, put on some coconut perfume, strutted around in my floral shorts (for EBEW) and pretended the heat didn't exist by staying in the comfort of my cool basement.

Outfit details - Shorts, free - Sunglasses, 5o cents (thrifted) - Necklace, $1 (Bargain Depot) - Top, $5.99 (sizeappeal.com) - Sandals, $10 (Wal-Mart)
(For the curious, we had 55% humidity and it hit about 90 degrees give or take a few numbers)

Prom

It's Prom around here, which I'm sure it is as well in many other places.
Being homeschooled; I never went to prom. I imagine I wouldn't like it since I don't like dancing.

But what I do love is... dressing up!! I put on my best "Andie Walsh" garb to match the theme of the movie, Pretty In Pink, which was what I picked to watch tonight. It's one of the few movies I don't mind watching more than once, which not a lot of others can I say the same about. I have a big spot in my heart from movies for the 1980's and 1990's!
As for this ensemble, I was feeling the top half and surprised myself by wearing a hat! I never wear hats! But I was stumped on what to wear on the bottom.. not crazy about tan pants and off-brand chucks. What else might I have paired with this? I'm always open to suggestions!

Outfit details - Hat- found in my basement - Ear/rings, homemade or thrifted (just as Andie would do) Bracelets, hand me down from Great Grandma - Vest, $1 (thrifted) - Pants, $2 (garage sale) - Floral tee, $2.50 (thrifted) - Lace tank, <$5 (Wal-Mart old) - Shoes, $11 (Wal-Mart)

Pick Flowers, Not Fights

Happy Friday everyone! :)
I've been spending my week wearing different combinations of this outfit. Tunic, belt, knotted button up. Sorry I've worn this belt with pretty much every single outfit. I just can't get over it's awesome-ness. I had looked for quite a few months and was beginning to give up on ever finding the right one, and then it showed up when I had lost all hope. Now if only that was my biggest problem.. haha

Notice anything different? It's not my hair, I'm still desperately waiting for a haircut with a pro. Could it possibly be THE NEW LAYOUT?!?! Heck yes! I found a bunch of tutorials on HTML so that I could customize my own look. The best part is this header, it's absolutely adorable, right?! I had to keep the mustache from the prior one, it's just such a part of me. Well, not that I have a mustache or anything.

Well I'm going to enjoy my Friday night! I'm home alone, eating ice-cream and playing Sims 2 in my pj's. That sounds positively perfect to me. Farewell, blogland!

Outfit details - Shorts, previously pants from long, long ago - Ring, <$1?? (garage sale long, long ago) - Sunglasses, 50 cents (thrifted) - Tunic, 50 cents (garage sale) - Sandals, 75 cents (Wal-Mart old) - Belt, $1.50 (thrifted) -- How crazy is it that my belt was more expensive than anything else I was wearing?

Following The Footsteps

Goodness gracious! I forgot about this outfit. I wore it a couple Sundays back. I was pretty excited to wear it as well because of the shoes.
Oxfords and brogues have been making there way around the blogs and gained huge popularity. As silly as it sounds, sometimes I feel more up for trying something new if I see a lot of people pull it off. These shoes were one of those items. I had began looking online for some, but was never comfortable paying more than $20 for shoes I may or may not love. But that one magical day when my friend took me thrifting out of town, I found these at the thrift store for $1. I can totally risk one dollar. So I did it. I'm not sold on them, but maybe it was just this pair. The bottom is kind of slick (not to mention they're quite vintage!) and I felt I had to be careful not to slip the entire day. Maybe I'll give them another try in the Fall!

Outfit details - Skirt, free - Tee, free - Scarf, cut from old dress - Tights, $1 (Wal-Mart old) - Shoes, $1 (thrifted) - Belt, $1.25 (thrifted) - Ring, $3.50 (F21 old)
