An apple a day..

Something new?! Heck yes, I treated myself this week. I have been eying/thinking about this cardigan from Wal-Mart for about a month now. (is it weird that I obsess over wanting things from Wal-Mart?) haha
This week we had to make a run there for my mom and I said.. I'm just gonna buy it. It's nice to live a little, and it happened to be on clearance so it was $3 cheaper than I expected. Jackpot!
I can see something as colorful as this carrying into all the seasons. Late nights at Summer bonfires, walks in the Autumn, cozy up indoors during Spring storms. And now, lounging around indoors when the weather outside is frightful. Hopefully I get the chance to do those things. :P

One more thing, it kind of blew my mind. I got an e-mail today from Gerry at BBM saying I won her sizeappeal.com giveaway. AHHH! What luck I've got lately. All this time, my family thought my sister Rachael had all the luck. (well technically she still does.. she won a pack of gum and jelly beans this week alone! that doesn't even compare to the other stuff she's won this year.)

Outfit details - Cardigan, $11 (Wal-Mart) - Gray tee (Hanes) - Shorts, $7 (Farm n Fleet) - Navy Tights, $1 (Wal-Mart old) - Apple necklace, previously green here and newly painted with nail polish.. 5 cents from a garage sale - Mocs, $33 (csn.com)

Tomorrow I have a really sa-weet DIY I've been working on all day, I'm so excited to show it to you all. See you then! :)

People Clothes

At the moment I am home alone with my mom and she is napping so I have even more extra time to be on the computer. I'm trying to type quietly, but who am I kidding?! I pound the keys because I think it makes me type faster.

I realized today that our house is increasing in traffic. Yesterday we had at least 4 unique visitors stopping by for different things. Dropping food off, visiting with my mom, people hoping to get a glance of me in my pajamas. Yeah.. about that last one. I felt gross being in sweats/pj's for literally the last week so I just had to put on some clothes. Now I feel completely ready for company.. but uh, where are they?!

Another realization I had today? This cross necklace finally made sense to me. (no, not like a Jesus revelation) But I finally figured out that white blob is not just leftover lunch or something, it's a mustard seed! I put two and two together when I remembered a friend who wouldn't let me where her necklace that contained a mustard seed in it because it was far to precious for her. For those of you who do not know what the heck I'm talking about, allow me to be preachy for a second and end you with this verse that talks about our faith being a mustard seed. It's a great reminder about what kind of faith we should have everyday.

Matthew 17:20
He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Hodge Podge

This is going to be just a hodge podge of information!

First things first - My mom had her surgery Monday morning on her wrist and is doing pretty well. It's painful at the moment, which I guess it to be expected after a surgery. She is on lots of pain pills so that is helping a ton! Since she is out of commission, I have learned how to do the laundry and the use the dishwasher! I feel so grown up.

On the fashion front - If you follow me on DailyBooth you'll see exactly how I look everyday. I'm so glad I invested in some plain v-necks last weekend when I was out of town shopping, I have been wearing them every.single.day. It's a little gross.

Yesterday - I had a lot of extra time on the computer and I was feeling really crafty so I was searching online for all kinds of good stuff. I liked this no sew shirt, this clever little bag, and pretty much anything from this website. I love a good DIY project and/or re-purposing of my clothes. Speaking of that, that little dinosaur fella around my neck in my picture is the latest thing I made today.

One last thing - While reading my e-mails on my DSi, I got one saying that I was an honorable mention in a Valentine's Day giveaway from herCatwalk.com. It's safe to say I freaked out and threw my DSi (into a soft surface, I'm still careful when I'm excited). I won a $50 gift card to a select store, I chose Forever 21 because their clothes are amazing. The little things in life get me excited.

Thanks for catching up with me! Another little exciting thing (wait, didn't I just say I was done?!) is I finally caught up on blog reading (fashion week really blew up my reader) so now I can just read them as they roll in. I hate knowing there are like 50 unread blogs or whatnot. That probably sounded stupid.. oh well.
Farewell dear readers! :)

Armed & Dangerous

(no clothes are involved in this post, you can just read the bold to be caught up quickly)
Heyey! I'm not one to be all obsessive about not updating, but something that is kind of a big deal is happening around our household currently.
I last left you all on Wednesday where I spent the day running errands with my two armed mother. On Wednesday evening however, my mom slipped in a neighbors driveway (surprisingly not on ice, just lost her balance) and came home complaining of major pain in her wrist. She went to the ER immediately (it's gotta be a huge deal in our house in order to go to the doc.. I don't even know what the inside of a hospital looks like*) and came home with a splint around her left wrist because of a fracture/dislocation.
But on Thursday she continued to complain of pain in her right wrist. Sure enough on Thurs. evening, the doc called and said they misread the x-ray and she indeed had a hairline fracture on her left wrist and needed a cast!
So on Friday morning she went in and got a hot pink cast on her right wrist and on Monday in the a.m. she is set to have a surgery on the left wrist (which she tried to avoid at all cost.. but, you gotta do what you gotta do!)

I'm not saying this is going to halt my life or anything. I actually have more time on the computer now because I don't have to fight her for it! But I just wanted to get you all up to date. My mom is doing well, she's not doing much because.. well.. because you can't do much without the use of your hands! Lots of sleeping. If you have any ideas of how to keep her entertained, do share! I'm kind of her primary care giver because I have lots of time on my hands.
My mom is actually a caregiver herself (she had to give up her clients this week though) and she said she has gained a whole new perspective and understanding of the people she helps, you know, now that she has to be waited on hand and foot.

Hopefully the next time I post I will be wearing some shnazzy outfits.
I hope you all have a pain free weekend!!
-Hannah :)

*That's just an exaggeration. I've made visits. But I've never ever had a problem that seemed big enough to go. I'm just tough I guess.

The Outdoorsy Type

I usually lack something to talk about, but I think I have enough I can say from these pictures and just my day in general.
First of all, these are my glasses. I realized I have never worn them on this blog. They are plastic (it's sort of obvious, I suppose) and have clear lenses. I have perfect vision so I've never had a need for glasses. I kind of wish I did though. I bought these many years ago from Claire's in the $1 bin. I'm pretty sure they were misplaced, but who was I to question their ridiculously cheap price! I went through a huge phase of wearing them all the time, but not so much anymore!
Next item on the list. Since this is the only place I can really gush about clothing and great deals, allow me to explain my luck at shopping today.
While walking through my local thrift store today, I felt the feeling that my skirt was doing something wonky and instead of being unlady like (or even un person like) and picking at it right there, I instead grabbed some clothes so I could make an escape to a dressing room to fix it. Turns out nothing was wrong with the skirt, but the items I happened to grab (kind of on purpose) were actually pretty nice, so I bought them. One was a pair of high waisted slacks (what a funny word.. slacks) and the other was an over-sized grandpa cardigan, which I haven't seen many of around that place. Two items I've been wanting to try out and were both found on the same day. I'm pretty excited for them to get washed so I can start wearing them!
Then I went over to Wal-Mart where I had been eying some floral leggings and to my surprise they were on clearance for $3. I snatched them right up. Along with an entire case of Fun Dips. I'm not a candy eater, but boy if you give me some straight up sugar made by Willy Wonka, I will down it in a day! I love cherry Fun Dips and Pixie Stix.

I may have just talked a little too much. Anyways, here is one last picture to show how glum the weather is today. Foggy, melty, and about 40 degrees (which is why I'm out without a coat!)

Outfit details - Shirt, given to me (Hannah brand) - Skirt, previously a tunic seen here. <$5 (thrifted, Decree brand) - Scarf, $5 (Wal-Mart old) - Tights, $1 (Wal-Mart old) - Mocs, $33 (csn.com) - Earrings, $1 (Wal-Mart old)

Heart Day

Here is how I started Valentine's Day - babysitting & super casual. The 4 year old is obsessed with my Nintendo DSi (best Christmas gift ever!) and loves taking pictures with it. She likes to capture me in my finest moments, biting my fingers.
Then I came home, tried to nap because I was incredibly tired (just from lack of sleep) and then my mom told me we were leaving the house and to get dressed. I had originally planned to wear my red rights I had won, but as soon as I put them on (first time and everything) they had a major ladder going on. I was devastated. So I put my quick thinking brain to use and switched up the outfit. (all things that have been seen a lot on here)
I just sat around eating way too many chocolate covered strawberries and watching movies with my mom and big sister.
Oh yeah, on Sunday night I chopped my bangs. When my heart leads me to do something, I do it. My heart told me I needed to cut my bangs because they were starting to look terrible. I am absolutely in love with them.

Oh my, Glee is gonna be on in like 5 minutes.. I gotta go! Enjoy your day. There will only be one February 15, 2011 in your lifetime. :)

Valentine's Day

I've been all out of sorts lately, it's kind of weird because I'm not really that busy. My body just wants to sleep all the time!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Last week I played dress up and came up with 2 looks. (though I have about a million in my head, I wish I could wear them all today) so uh, yes, here they are.
I will most definitely post what I'm really wearing today at a later date. I'm having a girls night with my mom and sister over at my sister's apartment. Knowing them they will force me to watch movies. It wouldn't be so bad if her place had internet.

Today the sweetest thing happened. When I arrived to babysit (at a way to early hour) the kids ran up to me with a single rose and a cookie! Lucky me, the rose was yellow.. my favorite color. :)

Pale in Comparison

All week I've been working on my "clothing inspiration" notebook. 6 years worth of random magazine clippings are finally getting organized and glued down. I only have a few things left to put in it then it is done.. for now, until I read another magazine. Anyways, since I've been staring at clothes all week and getting a feel for what I like (it's kind of weird I need a reminder) it got me obsessed with muted colors. You know the pinks-grays-tans-peaches. They're just so pretty to look at. So that's what I aimed for today. I also just wanted an excuse to wear this scarf. I've had it about as long as those magazine clippings and it's crazy and awkward to wear.

I'm pretty excited that today is the Friday and it's the 11th of the month, win!! (11 is my very favorite number, so I like things that have to do with it, including the 11th of every month)
Outfit details - Brown tee $1, (Sears old) - Jean, $3 (thrifted) - Lace tank, <$5 (Wal-Mart old) - Bolero or whatever that is, $3 (thrifted, Sears brand, didn't know that until I just checked.. ) - Belt, 50 cents (thrifted) - Scarf, gift from my aunt (it's Avon, for sure) - Feather hairclip, DIY - White bangle, vintage - Brown bangle, $1 (??) -Mocs, $33 (csnstores.com)

You Don't Know Jack

I've had a pretty great day! (well, great for someone who rarely does things)
I woke up super early to babysit and got to leave a bit earlier than expected and I when I got home I found out that I got generously paid (I've found that the dads are usually extra payers!!)
Well then when I got home I finally got my butt in gear to DIY the design on this plain white tee. I found a drawing of an owl online and freehand drew it. (I'm not so great with drawing, but it helps a lot to have something to refer to)
Then one last thing that absolutely topped the day off. I went into Wal-Mart and discovered You Don't Know Jack sitting on the shelf!! Oooooooh my gosh, I didn't think it was coming out until March. I screamed in the aisle and grabbed a copy so fast. (luckily it was not populated with people in that area)
If you have never heard of it, that's ok. I'm the only one of my friends that I know of that's ever played it! It's a super witty and fun quiz show computer game originally from the 90's. For some magical reason they decided to remake it for the modern age.

So has anything good things happened to you guys today?! (I would probably know if I caught up on blogs but I'm waiting until the weekend so I can really enjoy them!)

Pinktastic

(not sure why I look so frightened, I think I was just trying to keep my eyes open haha)
So I just about ran out of pink clothes (you know, for Pink Friday!), so I've gotta get creative now.. possibly turning my scarves into items they weren't intended for.
I'm also kind of out of ideas of what to talk about. I've felt indifferent all day. I watched a movie tonight, I don't like movies.* It felt like the movie owned an hour and a half of my life, ugh!

Outfit details - Pink sequin tunic that is now a top, <$5 (Wal-Mart old) - Leopard tunic that is now a dress extension, Swiss Colony - Charcoal tights, welovecolors.com - Hoodie, <$2 (garage sale) - Sneakers, $11 (Wal-Mart)

*Ok ok.. I do like some movies. If they were made between 1980 and 1999. I only like to watch a few favorites, I'm very picky. I'm trying to change it but it's just so hard.
Fun fact - The last movie I saw in theaters was License To Wed in 2007!

The Scoop

On Tuesday - Snowpockalypse hit. It was intense! I was running back and forth to the window most of the night. While I slept it sounded like a thunderstorm or something similar.
I had been waiting for a day to try out a new nail painting technique, I totally love it! (it's outer space-ish)
(my sister didn't want to stay all alone in her apartment, so she spent the night with us)
On Wednesday - The snow had stopped but the entire town shut down. It was a snow day for school days. (I'm sure I would have been more excited if I was in school or had something important to me canceled!)
(I tried to keep myself busy this week by stretching my creativity. I drew owls on envelopes and named them "Owlvelopes")
On Thursday - Our town is slowly becoming thawing out. It was another snow day for the school kids though. I went out this afternoon with my sister, mom, and older brother. We got food, went through my favorite thrift store, and swung through Wal-Mart.
I got an old computer game called, Road Adventures USA. I remember playing it as a kid, it's by the makers of Oregon Trail so it's very similar to it. I'm pretty sure the game is glitching because it told me I was walking into a party to meet people and I get there and no one was around. It's bad enough that I get ditched by people in real life but it's so uncool when computer games do it to me!
(the game with my very favorite owl cup!)
(the "party". maybe it was a surprise party and everyone was hiding, somehow I doubt it..)
(What I wore today. After awhile I realized I was dressed like a Jonas Brother, even our hair matched)
(one of my many quirky pins that I thrifted many years ago, I wore it on my vest today)
