DIY Mustache Ring

I've had a few inquiries about my homemade mustache ring and I'm finally getting around to a DIY post about it.
It's super simple and once you master the mustache, you will probably be overflowing with ideas for other rings. (I'm really not kidding about how simple it is)

Supplies Needed:
Modeling Clay (or Play Doh)
Nail Polish or Paint in your color choice
Plain ring bands
Super Glue
#1. Mold clay into desired shape, I desired a mustache.
#2. If using Baking Clay, bake the 'stache. If you're using Play Doh, let harden over night.
#3. If you used Baking Clay, paint desired color.
#4. Apply Super Glue to the ring then press the mustache on top until it's firmly in place.

NOTES:
- I have searched high and low for plain ring bands, these are the best I could come up with. I of course went back and bought a few more boxes just for the band itself!! (Shop-Ko, $5)
- Baking Clay is a bit more solid than Play-Doh, but I have figured out that it does the job just as well. (Baking Clay is $6ish, Wal-Mart)
- I used 2 coats of nail polish (I don't have a lot of paint and nail polish is cheap and available for me!). I used a clear coat on top for that little extra kick of shine.
- I edited this just to make it look a bit more simple. I like this layout a whole lot better!

If you have any questions or if you made this and want to show me how it turned out, then let me know! :)

WWTBSCW

WWTBCW - What Would The Babysitters Club Wear.

Today I took on a very long babysitting job. About 11 hours total. I'm currently on a break and am headed back later for the whole evening.
It's not often talked about, but I always wondering what I should wear babysitting. I have practically studied all the babysitters club movies (I don't read, but I'm sure I would love the books) and I take notes of their outfits.
Now, that was the early 90's so things are a bit different. But when getting dressed for any babysitting job (I've been doing this 10 years!) I always have comfort in mind, but then I like to keep my style in tact somehow. (and of course wear something I don't mind having drool and snot all over)
Today I think I nailed it. I took a cue from the BSC and wore over sized floral (my tunic) and paired it up with my trusty jeggings (which are just as comfortable as leggings) and threw on some accessories.
I'm sure they would have mixed some plaid and perhaps blue and gone for actual leggings with thick tube socks scrunched up, but that just wouldn't be me.

I also have a change of scenery as far as the photos go! This is inside the house I'm babysitting at and the balloons are from the girl who just turned 4 this week. (I could also say they were to celebrate Pink Friday!)

Might I also add that I reeeeeeally love natural light photos. I think my camera does it best work under those conditions. It kills me to be taking pictures in my basement. I guess that is my only complaint about Winter, that I don't get to take my camera outside as often. But I will continue to make it work!

Happy Pink Friday!! :)

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Today started off with snow falling from the heavens, which always makes me happy. It's so nice to watch it come down from the comfort of the indoors.
I ran some errands this afternoon and my sister came over and she was so nice and took outdoor pictures for me. I'm not crazy about this outfit, but it kept me warm.. too warm.

Well besides weather stuff I'm not really sure what else to talk about! I'm just gonna walk away from the computer now...

Outfit details - Tee, $3 (thrifted, Target brand) - Cardigan, $3 (thrifted, Maurices brand, it's one of my favorites as well) - Jeans, $3 (thrifted) - Scarf, gift - Necklace, homemade - Beret, $1 (Dollar Store) - Boots, $10 (Wal-Mart old)

Something Better Waiting Somewhere For Me

(lyrics from Return Post by the Bangles - mostly because it had to do with mail. haha)
Last week I was informed by Nicki of Wild As A Mink, But Sweet As Sodapop, that I had won her giveaway! It was a surprise prize, I knew nothing of what to expect.
Well today only one thing arrived in the mail - my package from Nicki!
The suspense of what was inside was killing me so of course I opened it right away.
There was a set of Party Rats, an adorable little envelope/letter necklace, and a thank you card. I absolutely love it!

The Party Rats were the first thing I pulled out and I started laughing thinking how crazy they were. But then I noticed on the package it said "ideal for night blogging". Aww, too perfect! You're totally feeding my late night computer obsession. I'm going to be trying them out when it gets dark, which is like 2 pm in Wisconsin, right?!

As for the necklace, I put it on right away. I already had an outfit in mind and the necklace went along nicely with it. It's kind of cool how that worked out!

Thank you so much for great surprise, Nicki! (PS, right now on her blog she is having a pretty great giveaway! You need to check it out!)

Outfit details - White v-neck underneath, <$3 (Target old) - White button down, $1.50 (thrifted, Wal-Mart brand) - Shorts, $7 (Farm'n'Fleet last summer) - Brown tights, $1 (Wal-Mart old) - Brown flats, $7 (Dollar General) - Belt, <$1 (thrifted) - Scarf, <$1 (yard sale)

This is the first time I've ever worn tights with shorts and I don't know what I so afraid of before. I really liked the end result, I felt so daring the whole day.

Tickled Pink

(this was done with my new "Cracked" nail polish I ordered off of Amazon. It's sooo cool!)
I certainly did not forget about Pink Friday! I went with just a hint of pink this week. Each of these items are something I wear over and over again! Case in point, this vintage shift dress has been worn here, here, and here. I always try to change it up just a little bit. It's one of those things that I grab when I'm out of options (not today however!) because it makes me feel unique and pulled together when I'm in a hurry. Do you all have a piece of clothing or an outfit that you know you can always count on when you're out of options?

It's been such an odd day for me since I was hardly on the computer at all. With my sister coming over (life pretty much freezes when she's here and we have to attend to her every whim, somehow I still love her) and then I had a friend come over! One that I have mentioned oodles of times here on the blog. Sarah! We got to play Settlers of Catan (I won) and then we had a photo shoot in my basement. Our theme was Awkward School Photos, she played the role well...

We had this sweet set up going against one of the green walls, we drew white stars all over them (drawn with chalk, I think you can kind of see it in my pictures up there) and then we had a black light shining on it. It did not turn out awesome at all. But this theme was still kind of awesome. I'm nervous to see how awkward I came out in photos since she took all the pictures of me on her camera!

One last thing! Major mad props to everyone that has been coming to my blog lately. I'm kind of overwhelmed with it, but I'm super thankful. THANK YOU! :D

Playing Dress Up

Today I played dress up. I have a few vintage hats from my great grandma and I finally found the perfect hairstyle to showcase one of them.
I believe the few hats/headbands I have are from the 1920's and actually belonged to my great grandma's mom and then they were passed onto her.
There was actually a really large collection of them and most of them went into a museum. I happened to find a few under a bed and snatched them up! I'm so sneaky.

My intentions were to craft a bunch today but then I got distracted with this little project. I just love dressing up and having a photo shoot! They're such a fun break from my usual days of sitting on a computer.

(Fun fact about that ring - Many years ago it was found in our front yard through the help of a metal detector and we dug it up. I pity the person who lost that deep in the dirt. it's like a mini chandelier for my finger)

If I lived in the 1920's/1930's, this would be my yearbook photo.

Lipstick & High Heels

This outfit was nothing special. I knew I really wanted to wear this tunic/dress for Pink Friday (because it's so wonderfully perfect for the occasion) so then I put on my completely over-worn jeggings and matched up accessories that were pink & black.
I spent the day running errands and doing tasks around my house so I figured why not throw on a pair of heels and some lipstick? ;)

Outfit details - Tunic/dress, <$5 (Wal-Mart old) - Cardigan, $7 (Vanity, so old it's pilling and desperately needs to be replaced) - Leopard print shoes, $7 (K-Mart, older than the cardi) - Scarf, $2?! (bought inside an H&M store a bunch of summers ago) - Earrings, homemade

Stay Golden

I was so excited today when I went out to the mailbox and there was a squishy package with my name on it. I ran inside and ripped it open and found the 3 tights I won from We Love Colors!
I picked out colors that would be more of a challenge to style and also ones that I would not be able to find from a store. I think I picked well and the gold & yellow are a really bright edition to my collection! I immediately decided to try them out and threw together something yellow-y. When I wear them in real life though I wouldn't be so matchy-matchy.
I've read tons of reviews about these and I was not disappointed at all. They are just as fabulous in real life. Thank you, WLC! :)

Back to Black

Hey!!
So I've had a pretty great day/week so far. This morning I woke up to find an e-mail informing me that I'm We Love Colors "Curvy Girl of the Month" for December. I think my picture will be up on their Facebook, and for sure I'm getting 3 pairs of tights. I've never tried them before simply because I don't have any way to purchase items online (e.g., credit/debit card), so I'm pretty excited!

I usually don't talk about when I purchase things because mostly everything I get comes from thrift stores. But I have had a bit of luck with real stores lately and I would like to share the wealth.
Today I stopped in at Maurices (I have a gift card from March that still hasn't been used) and I noticed they had a sale online and I was hoping it was also in store. It sure was! All the clearance items are an additional 75% off! Jackpot! So I went in and bought this dress in the color gray. it was only $7.50! It seems neutrel colored and I'm sure it will fit in well with my wardrobe. They also have a red dot sale going on, so some clearance items are an additional 50% (still very good though!).
The other thing I wanted to mention was I went to the Dollar General (If you don't have one I'm sure there is an equivalent near you) and I wandered into the clothing. Now mind you quality isn't great but they do have great prices. I was able to find flats for $8. When I got to the register they were only $6! I have the hardest time finding shoes because I wear a size 11 and flats are ridiculously priced no matter where you go. So I was delighted to come across these. I don't have a picture but I'm sure I'll wear the heck out of them soon on this blog. So DG is good for a cheap price on stuff as well as the Dollar Store where I've gotten a ton of cute scarfs and berets. Do not underestimate the power of a cheap looking store!

Well I hope you're able to score some great deals. Thank you so much for stopping by my little blog! :)

Outfit details - Tunic, $3 (thrifted H&M brand) - Jeggings, $20 (old Wal-Mart) - Belt, came off a dress - Necklace, $1 (thrifted) - Scarf, 5o cents (thrifted) - Rings ??

Snuggling with a Snuggie

Today my family celebrated a very small "second Christmas". My sister just had a few extra things that hadn't arrived in time for December 25th, so today she had her chance to give them out.
I was pretty stoked to receive Settlers of Catan, it's always great to have another board to share with friends.
The most unexpected gift came from my mom (she threw in a few things to give out as well), she gave me an off-brand Snuggie. I now completely understand the ridiculousness of it. It's super static-y even in our house with a humidifier going, I figure it will be great to use in the Summer.. but then again, I guess it won't be needed then. I didn't think that one through.

Well now I am off to go finish up some letters. Throughout Christmas break I had the chance to see some of my friends I've been writing letters to all semester, they really appreciated the letters which has inspired me to write some that are a bit more creative. Now that they're almost all back in school, I can begin again!

Outfit details - Scarf top, $0 (Swiss Colony) - Leggings, $1 (Wal-Mart) - Belt, free - Scarf, $1 (dollar store) - Necklace, homemade - Earrings, $1 (old Wal-Mart)

I would also like to say a thank you to Amanda of The Upside of Wonder for featuring me the other day in her series "Hello Blogosphere". It totally made my week. So if you were sent over from her blog then thank you so much for stopping by! :D

Pink Friday

Many years ago, perhaps 5-ish, my friends all had this thing going called Pink Friday (I'm almost for sure we weren't the ones who started it, we just followed along). Every Friday my sister and I would participate and wear all the pink we could find. Eventually the whole trend died out. But today, I would like to bring it back. Or at least the best I can. I love dressing up for themes, so it's kind of my own personal theme every Friday!
This pink tee came from the exact same concert that the ugly sweater came from. My sister actually bought it because I was freaking out about being seen in the ugly sweater, I wasn't as confident at pulling off quirky clothes as I am now. (if you're squinting your eyes trying to read what band it is, it's an Audio Adrenaline shirt that says "Church Punk '05)
The entire time I was getting dressed I was reminded of another outfit that used a band tee (ok, I know lots of people do it, but there was one in particular on my mind). So I got out my inspiration notebook and found it. It's kind of cool that came it came from a street style clipping. That is a reason I love style blogs so much, getting inspirations from girls who live lives similar to my own and not a celebrity.

Outfit details - Skirt, free - Tee, concert - Cardigan, $1 (Wal-Mart) - Tights, 2 pairs actually (both from Wal-Mart for $1) - Belt, $1 (Wal-Mart.. looong time ago) - Necklace, 50 cents (garage sale) - Shoes, $7 (K-Mart looong ago)

Happy Pink Friday! :)

An Old Story

(please excuse the hair, it's a mistake)You ever wanna feel creepy when you take pictures of yourself? (that is weird enough) pretend to flash the camera so you can what's underneath your vest. It didn't feel wrong at first but when I looked back at the pictures I realized it was wrong.
Today my great grandma (Elsa) turned 99!! Holy cow! That means she was born in 1912. I remember doing a report on her in third grade and I got to learn oodles about her life. You know, trudging miles through the snow to get to school and such. A few weeks ago my dad was going through some of her possessions and came across her high school year book. As you might imagine, I snatched it right up. It was really neat seeing how kids my age were back in the 20's/30's. A lot of people left fun notes to my g-gma and there was a lot of stories about a particular summer at camp by a lake.. hmmm! So anyways, I went and visited her and ended up wearing this pretty little necklace she gave me last year. For vintage jewelry, a lot of her pieces could easily pass for modern (I guess that saying about everything old is new; is true).
I was trying to find a cute photo of her and I from when I was a kid (not sure if any exist) but I learned that all of our pictures are currently in storage! I did however find a random envelope of photos I took from her house (and have been holding onto for no reason at all) and I found a cute picture of me at her house. I'd say I was like 4 years old. Close enough, eh?

Outfit details - Jeans, $3 (thrifted, Maurices brand) - Tunic, old dress-self hemmed - Scarf, $1 (dollar store) - Vest, $4 (Shop-Ko)

A Little Bit of This

I've said it before and I will say it again, I love winter! I love dressing in layers. You can't get away with them in the summer time at all.
A couple days ago I had a sleepover at my sisters house and quickly threw clothes into a bag for the next day and this outfit came together accidently. Sometimes I hang certain clothes up that are particularly inspiring to me for a week (or two depending on how lazy I am). I kept obsessing over the layering the Elizabeth did here, and those pieces were hanging up so I grabbed them and am happy with the results.
I wore this NYEday to run errands.

Outfit details - Tunic, old dress self hemmed - Vest, homemade - Belt, came with a tunic - Jeans, $3 (thrifted, North Crest brand) - Scarf, $1 (Wal-Mart)
That is one cheap outfit if I do say so myself, which I just did. :)
