We Can Skate The Night Away

On Saturday a big group of my friends went out for a fun day. We started off eating at a restaurant downtown (that my big brother happens to be a cook at) then we made a quick trip out of town to pick up more people, went ice-skating (which I've only done once and I have yet to fall down, yay) and we ended the night attempting* to play games at a friends house.
This our group skating picture, after we went to our friends house about 7 more people showed up. We certainly had quite a group going!
Me and my good friend, Jessica!
*I say attempting because it was just a large group of loud and giggly teenagers. But we tried to settle down, didn't work out so well.

Black Friday'n'stuff

My mom knows how to keep me busy in the car while she runs errands, she buys me ice-cream. This is my newest obession, Chocolate Covered Strawberry Blizzard from DQ. MMMmm!
Today is Black Friday and we happen to have a black mouse enter our house! My mom discovered him this morning knawing his way through a bag of M&M's. I have a theory that he is related to that squirrel from our yard...

I meant to tell you guys as simply as I could about that job I interviewed for (Activites Assistant at a nursing home). It wasn't exactly an interview, just a very long overview of what I would be doing. After talking with the lady for awhile she was shocked I had never had a job and told me this is a career choice. After I realized what was going on I tried to ruin the interview and hinted (strongly) that I wanted no part of this place. She kept saying that she liked me and would not say no to me. Today she makes her decision and I'm praying she's not stupid and tries to hire me. I'm better off pretty much anywhere, I guess it was not a good idea to apply for this position.

Anyways! I did not do any shopping, but my sister was pretty much obsessed with online shopping and was up at all hours (yesterday and into the early morning hours) looking for deals. She is moving soon and has a lot to be looking for, household essentials mostly.

Looks like I had a lot to say today! But I'm done, I have a super awesome Saturday planned and I really hope it doesn't fall through. I hope you all have a delightful weekend! :)

Thanksgiving Outfit Recap

Today is Thanksgiving (in America). The holidays haven't been a big deal in our household for a few years, but my mom still makes up a big meal and feeds us kids and my dad. Heck, today we didn't even eat around the table, we sat in the living room watching t.v.! The only extra family we had was my cousin from Alaska, he's been here all week and we actually thought he was flying home today so it was a surprise.
It's not a dress-up occasion persay, but I like to dress up and don't usually have that chance so I just go for it. My sister then see's my effort and tries to out do me. As for everyone else.. eh, they don't try so much. haha I ended up being barefoot the entire day but I threw the moccasins on real quick for pictures. I probably would have prefered heels if I had actually left the house.
All that I'm thankful for comes from God and there is a lot to be thankful for this year! I've got some amazing and supportive friends, a pretty great family, this blog!, YouTube, a camera that is somehow still working..
I hope you all had an awesome day and were able to stuff yourselves full of food (even if you don't celebrate this holiday haha)

Rain rain go away...

Today it was a beautiful Spring day. It rained, so I dressed for rain. When I got outside I found out how incredibly warm it was. My goodness, Wisconsin, make up your mind!! Just yesterday I was dressing for 30 degrees and freezing.
OH! Today I got a call back about the nursing home job, I have a job interview tomorrow at noon. I am very nervous. I was already tongue tied on the phone and felt like an idiot, I get like that a lot when I meet new people. I just hope I impress her, I know I would be perfect for this job I just have to convince her!

THANK YOU sooo much to the new followers and for your comments you leave on this blog. I love getting the e-mails saying I have a new comment, it's almost as good as getting a letter in the mail. haha

(ps, still no snow. I heard possibly Thursday? In time for Thanksgiving?!)

Junk

Here is what was worn to church this morning.
I can't believe I used to be foolish and not wear this purple dress as a dress. I kept trying to pass it off as a tunic because I hate skirts/dresses worn about the knees. But then I discovered colored tights and a better body image and this dress is now back to it's original purpose!
Today I put my favorite scarf over it. I think it kind of makes it look tribal, in a really subtle way.
Early this year (January) we cleaned out my great-grandma's house. Mind you she is 98, so she has many years of junk.. cool junk. I went right to her closests and raided them. I was hoping to find some sweet vintage frocks, but instead I found a bunch of old belts stashed away in different places. My great grandma is a much tinier woman than me and I imagine when she still wore these she was small, but I squeeze myself into them the best that I can. haha
The point of that story is, I'm pretty sure that this is the first time I've actually worn one of the belts on my blog? I also got a ton of jewelry which I wear frequently. Mostly a bunch of fancy jewelry and I've been waiting for the holiday season to wear it because it's so shiny!
What are you all looking forward to wearing most this holiday season?

Outfit details - A big thank you to Wal-Mart for proving 90% of this outfit! haha
Purple dress, <$5 - Tights, $1 - Scarf, $5 - Earrings, $1 - Mocs, $33 (CSN.com) - Gray cardigan, $4 (Shop-Ko) - Necklace, homemade - Belt, vintage from my great grandmother

I'm pretty sure all this Wal-Mart stuff was bought atleast 2+ years ago, so don't expect to find it in stores.

I'm in the business of puppets

- Today was yet another puppet show practice, I kind of forget how much torture that is on our arms.. ouch! But it ended with a cookie break, so it's all gooooood.
- I forgot to mention early.. look who is now the owner of a correctly lined up header? This girl! I finally found a code to fix it.
- Another 'aha' moment, I set my camera to Vivid and it kind of helped with the crappy white balance problem I've been having. The lighting in the garage is horrid, but discovering this little secret will hopefully help me in the future.
- Annnnnnnd, thanks for reading my blog and leaving comments and being your awesome self!

Today was most definitely a better day than yesterday. Nothing a little pray couldn't fix, it's nice to know there is no problem too small for God to handle. :)

Outfit details - Jeggings, ahh yes again! $20 (Wal-Mart) - Black long sleeve tee, <$5 (Hanes) - Black dress that really is black and not purple, $3 (thrifted, H&M brand) - Gray cardigan, $4 (Shop-Ko) - Scarf, $5 (Wal-Mart) - Belt, came with a vest - Leopard print flats, $7 (K-Mart) - Necklace, hand me down from my sister - Studly earrings.. I don't know.

Still No Snow

I had sort of a tough morning at church. I've had a hard year holding onto friends, I think I've touched on it here before. For some reason, when I was at church this morning it kind of hit me hard. I went alone with my nice friend, Hannah. I wouldn't say Hannah and I are close, but I would definitely say she's a good friend, and a good listener. I like our talks in the car.
Most of the morning, I was wandering in the back (we arrived at an odd time and just had to wait around for the next service). I just walked from circle to circle, it was weird just standing there waiting around and having no one to talk to. It probably wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't such a non-outgoing person. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily shy, but I'm also usually not the one to get a convo started, I never know what to talk about! haha
To top it off, I had to sit by myself because Hannah was up playing on worship team. I made it work, after awhile you kind of just get used to sitting by yourself. I usually just take out my notebook and write stuff down, I'm pretty much always writing! It gets my mind off of things and helps me release a lot of my creativity.

BUT! Onto to something nicer. I came home, took a very long nap this afternoon, woke up and had brownies and hot chocolate with my mom (which also doubled as my supper because it was a seriously long nap!)
I swear, these pictures do no justice to the pretty color of these tights! They're a maroon color and since I had anticipated snow when leaving church, I doubled up tights and wore brown ones underneath. And guess what? Still no snow. But it was hackin' cold today and it rained for most of the day. It just looks like it should be snowing, I don't understand. :/
Well, now I've got a challenge ahead me, falling asleep! I've got more energy now than when I woke up this morning. Good night everyone! (or morning depending on when you read this, that's cool too)

Outfit details - Both tights, $6 and $1 (Wal-Mart) - Moccasins, $33 (CSN.com) - White V neck, <$5 (Target) - Pink tank underneath, 25 cents (thrifted) - Cardigan, $7 (Vanity) - Skirt that is also a tunic, hand me down - Ring, $1.50 (Forever21)

Scarves 101: Links

When it comes to instructions, I'm a very visual person. I'd rather see something than have someone explain it to me. With the scarf ideas I have posted this week, they were just a bunch of ways I usually wear a scarf, nothing very complicated so I didn't think a tutorial was necessary. But if you're more like me and you want to SEE how to tie scarves, I would suggest any of the links below.

- Tania from What Would a Nerd Wear has some neat idea in pictures.
- Audi from Fashion for Nerds showcases some scarf tying ways I was not aware of.
- Terra from SWF has a video on with some quick and simple tying tricks.
- I like the first idea from this site because I wear so many of the squares - Workchic.com
- Last but not least.. Modcloth has a trio of videos with some fun scarf ideas. #1 - #2 - #3

If you know of a great tutorial or perhaps you've posted one on your blog, go ahead and leave me the link. I would be really interested in seeing it! I hope you've gotten some inspiration this week. :)

The anticipation of snow on a Saturday!

This is how most of my day looked...
Me in the car. Haha, I agreed to run errands with my mom but I actually hate going in the grocery store. I just sat in the car, people watched, and pretended to write a lot of stuff and not look creepy in our over sized creeper van.

This morning I woke up to my Minnesota friends talking about snow all over Facebook. I figured they meant like a dusting or something. Then one of them posted a photo from around noon and at that point it was still coming down...It looks so glorious! It's only a matter of minutes and hours before it hits Wisconsin! We've already had a gloomy day full of wind and rain. I'm pretty darn excited! :)

Where you guys are at, do you have snow yet?

Outfit details - Jeans, $10 (Steve and Barry's) - Striped top, $1 (Wal-Mart looong ago) - Red top, $3 (Wal-Mart) - Cardigan, hand me down from my aunt (Easlon Park brand) - Scarf, $5 (bought at Plato's Closet) - Tennies, $11 (Wal-Mart) - Earrings, thrifted a long time ago

Spotted

I finally got around to wearing my new moccasins. Perhaps I'm just picky, but I don't like the way they look with any of my jeans (obviously I put up with it for the photo). I've tried skinny, straight, bootcut, flare, and wide jeans and I just didn't care for the look of any of them with mocs! I did however like them with tights, so I'm cooking up some ideas in my head of how to pull that of. Does anyone have some tips or tricks on how to pull of mocs?

Today I went out for lunch with my mom and then we ran a few errands. It was oh so eventful. I do not have any plans for the weekend, but what else is new?! I will probably stay in, make some brownies, and watch Hannah Montana Forever with Rachael.
I hope you all get out of your houses and doing something unforgettable this weekend! :)

Outfit details - Mocs, $33 (CSN.com) - Jeans, $4 (thrifted, Old Navy brand) - White shirt, $3 (thrifted, Roxy brand) - Gray vest, $11 (Forever21) - Scarf, <$1 (thrifted) - Key necklace, $1 (Bargain Depot) - White beret, $5 (Wal-Mart)- Ring, $3 (Wal-Mart, which I have now learned they are marked down to a $1, if only I had waited!)

Scarves 101: The Nonconformist Scarf

Not all scarves want to be worn as neck wear, some have aspirations of dressing up your outfit in other ways. Actually, I don't think scarves have dreams, but I'm sure if they did they would be similar to this.
Here are some other ways to style up your scarf!

Picture this.. you're at a party and you get warm and take off your sweater, but then you realize you don't have a purse and you don't feel like holding it. So you take off your scarf and a few quick knots later, you have a nifty little purse, leaving your hands free.

Tomorrow I will be sure to post some links to other blogs/websites that have neat scarf ideas. I hope you enjoyed this. I'm sure whatever you end up doing with your scarf, it will look fabulous. Have fun playing around with different shapes and tying. Good luck! :)

Stripes and Serving

Outfit of the day! Lookie here, I'm wearing a scarf. This one in particular goes with that brown sparkly one I've been wearing so much! But I've only worn them together like.. once.

Today is Veteran's Day and I am honored to have had a couple cousins, an uncle, some family friends and a brother (who briefly) served our nation in different branches of military. To all that are over now and to those that are back home, THANK YOU! One day is not enough to be remembered for people who are fighting everyday. I hope that you're all able to take the time today to pray for those overseas and their families or at least take the time to thank someone you know.
And with that, I shall conclude this post.

Outfit details - Jeans, $10 (Steve and Barry's) - Striped top, a hand me down of sorts (Hannah brand, yep, that's why I accepted it!) - Tank top, $2.40 (Old Navy) - Brown cardigan, $3 (thrifted, Maurices brand) - Blue scarf, gift (Avon brand) - Gladiators, 75 cents (Wal-Mart) - Key Necklace, $1 (Bargain Depot)

Scarves 101: The Big One

I own very few over sized scarfs, but they are definitely for lazy days. They're also especially good for long trips because they can double as a blanket. They can do almost anything the long skinny scarf can do, but will look much fuller. That might be a good thing to pair with your winter jacket to add some bulk around your neck. I've had a lot of fun experimenting with this size.

This vest was created out of frustration one day and I kind of really like it. I wish I had gotten a better picture of it, it's similar to draped vests that seem to popular lately, but it actually has more of a rounded bottom. I would say you could do this with any large rectangle piece of cloth (doesn't have to be a scarf). Instant, no-sew vest!

Scarves 101: The Mile Long Scarf

This is the kind of scarf I wear most often in the colder months. The brown glittery one has actually been in my last 3 outfit posts! It's easy to grab and go, but of course some days I feel like I need something different which would make me want to tie it in a new way, here are some that I've come up with to share with you.

Scarves 101: Being Square

It should not come as to surprise to my regular readers that I love scarves. It's almost safe to say that I hoard them. I have a wall full of all different kinds. Long ones, silk ones, fluffy ones, sparkly ones. I'm not picky.
Anyways! Over the years I've picked up a few neat tying tricks. There are seriously way more ways to tie them than the ones I will showcase to you. It's almost mind blowing what you can do with a scarf.
I will start off with my most favorite of scarves.. the square. Enjoy! :)
One little thing I've learned about scarves, mostly these ones, are that they absorb pretty much every scent. I can go months without wearing a certain scarf and it will still smell just like me (which is pretty darn good, if I say so myself ;) )
This can be an advantage if you are running out of time and can't put on perfume, so you will be naturally deodorized. Or this can work against you and pick up an unwanted smell (such as cig smoke) and have to put up with the scent all day.

I picked this scarf up a few months ago at a thrift store and it cleverly had a large ring over the knot. It's ridiculously heavy and weighs the scarf down and makes it do funny tricks, but I like where they were going with the idea..
