DIY: Skinny Jeans

So I've had these awful fitting (and poorly made) jeans from Steve and Barry's and I thought it might be neat to transform them. All weekend I've been coming up with different DIY projects, so today I started with skinny jeans!
(please excuse the crappy and half awake look, I am kind of half awake today! haha)
I'm not going to do a step by step or anything because I found sooo many when I was going to make these! The one I used that was most helpful came from ModCloth - Click this to view the step-by-step video on YouTube.
I've only got one minor problem, but it's no big deal..
My side seam has a new pattern that just starts at the knee. Oops! I'm hoping people won't notice or care. It's a new look I suppose?
I am pretty proud though, I've never used a sewing machine for such a project before (I used to make crappy glasses cases, but nothing as large as re-purposing jeans!). It was super simple and I'm going to rework another pair of jeans right now! Well, as soon as I can figure out how to re-thread the machine..
Expect to see some more DIY from me this week. I hope you all have a delightful Monday! :)

To The Max

Today is my big sisters 22nd birthday! We went out of town shopping, total flop for me but it was fun for her.

This is my first ever maxi dress! I like it a lot, except for the top. I'm anti-straps of any kind but it suddenly got hot so I just let it slide. Does it bother anyone else to see a ton of straps from tanks and bra's? The maxi came from Seventh Avenue. I shop at the outlet store in my own a lot, so I'm used to getting the clothes rather cheap.

Have a Happy Weekend Everyone!! :)

Outfit details - Maxi from Seventh Avenue, - Gray tank, $1 (Wal-Mart) - Earrings, I don't remember (Shop-Ko)

Super

Just like typical teenagers, yesterday didn't go as planned. We got a late start and decided not to go to a movie and instead we went and hung out at Chili's and there parking lot then headed over to Denny's. It was so much fun!
Today I went to the local thrift store with my sister and my mom. Didn't buy anything, sad day! But I was in the dressing room trying on something and there was a woman in the next changing room over and she must of had two young kids and they sounded so cute. They were like "Ooh mom, that's a boo-tiful dress" "99 dollars? Do you have 99 dollars? We can't buy this!", it made me smile. But apparently there mom was not in a good mood and she kept telling them to be quiet and to quit being rude. I honestly had no problems with her kids, they were having a fun conversation and at least they weren't crying in the store and yelling about toys. Is there really a moment in motherhood when you get angry at your kids for simply talking too loud? Maybe it's just because I like kids so it didn't bother me.

Anywho! Remember that one floral dress I cut into a tunic (and now I wear a lot)? Well this is the bottom half that I hacked off, it makes the perfect eternity scarf!

Outfit details - Scarf, homemade - Jeans, $3 (thrifted) - Black Top, $3 (thrifted) - Pinkish colored shirt, ?? (sister bought it for me) - Super sparkly silver bangles, $1 (Claire's) - Earrings, gift.

Out of randomness, I decided to attempt a jumping shot.. I've never had one turn out to close so perfection!

One more thing! Thank you VERY much for the comments ya'll have been leaving and for the new followers, I am very flattered.

Positively Purple

Yes, I know what you're thinking, and of course the sweater is as warm and comfy as it looks! Perfect for this oddly chill (dare I say Fall-like) weather!
Tonight is farewell to my friend going off to college. We're headed to dinner and a movie with a big group. (and I'm excited because it's out of town)
I've been to the movies maybe twice in the last year, I'm just not a fan of movies. But my mom convinced me I should go out and have fun with my friends, and I should always listen to my mom! haha
At first I looked at this and thought it was too dressy. But after wearing it around on a trial run it was sooo comfortable. Hey, even if you're sitting a dark theater for hours, why can't I still look cute?

Today is National Second-Hand Wardrobe Day. I thought it would be neat to wear all second hand clothes, but then I just kind gave up.. I'm still showing some love to some pre-owned pieces though!

Outfit details - Skirt worn as dress, free from Jeans For Jesus - Jeggings, $20 (Wal-Mart) - Tank, $1 (wal-mart, I actually wore it to cover any bra straps) - Sweater, $3 (thrifted!) - Belt, came attached to a vest - owl necklace, $2 (garage sale)

Oh, one more thing. I know that I am barefoot a lot in pretty much all my pictures, but you're really not missing out on my shoe choice for the day. I am usually in my gladiators or flip flips at any given moment. I would go barefoot all the time but I'm afraid of stepping on glass and other horrible things lurking on the public sidewalks!

This totally made my day! The lovely Anika, over at Sweetfaced Style featured me! You can go check out my mini-interview with her. It's really awesome what she is doing to promote other bloggers.

We only part to meet again. -John Gay

I spent my evening last night at a bonfire/sleepover for a dear friend of mine headed off to college. Gosh, it seems like all my friends are leaving!
The photo above was some of my friends who had a bit of fun with me behind the camera. It's a really simple trick, I just mess with the long shutter. I'm sure there's a tutorial out there somewhere explaining it better than me.
Just so you know, you weren't missing out on anything fashionable. I didn't want good clothes to smell of bonfire so I went with the good ol' jeans and a t-shirt + favorite sweater.

Spider Season

An outfit post on a Monday?! Ha, I am usually not doing much on the earlier days of the week.

Today I had like 10 craft projects in mind, so I put on clothes and wandered out to my fort. As soon as I got to the door, I felt something tickling my arms. That's when I realized I didn't check for spider webs and sure enough, I walked through one! I then began to shake it off and brush myself and then quickly ran in the fort because I didn't want the neighbors to think I'm that weird. To top it off, my key got stuck in the door and I felt like a fool standing outside kicking and slamming on the door trying to get it out.

Onto the outfit! This was a for fun outfit, the kind I wear when I get to do nothing at home. It's something I wouldn't/can't wear in public. This one would be inappropriate because the "dress" hardly covers my bum and I don't feel that leggings count for pants. Plus I just kept tugging on the darn thing to keep it down.. here is my awkward picture showing you how it looks from behind.
Outfit details - Dress, $3 (thrifted) - Leggings, cheap from Wal-Mart - Belt, free (Jeans for Jesus) - Brown tee, $1 (Sear's) - Necklace, homemade.

The Title of a New Post

(floral bat wings! hehe, just kidding)
Thank you SO much for the prayer and well wishes! They were greatly appreciated.
The issue was resolved and nothing is changing in my life. I guess that's good and bad. I feel like I've been living the same life from high school up until now. I've never had a job, license, boyfriend.. and for most of those years, a cell phone. (yeah, you're probably like, "huh?! no license?!" yeah.) I'm really craving for some change right now, I just don't know what it will be.
Oh, and my ankle was doing a lot better on Friday, then Saturday afternoon a new pain started in it. Bah, it's ridiculous!

Anyways, it's always fun to see what part of my outfit might have an old story attached to it. Today the entire outfit is thrifted except for the polka dotted bandanna (which I rolled into a bracelet like so). I have had the bandanna since I was a youngin' and I had a huge obsession with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Get it now?

Outfit details - Capris, $4 (thrifted) - I Heart New York tee, $3 (thrifted) - Vest, $1 (thrifted) - Bandanna, priceless.

Those Summer Days

Hmmf... I'm not really sure what to write about today, I've got a lot of thoughts on my mind.
I woke up this morning and my ankle was sore. It felt like I slept walk in high heels or something! I hardly wear heels (of course, you guys would know if I did wear them!) and I haven't done any walking lately. I dunno, it's strange.
This is one of the few times I have mixed patterns together, I was pretty excited to try it. It may appear to be a strange combo, but I think they work because of the colors. I'm kind of obsessing over blue and yellow together lately. Tired of these jeggings yet?!

If you guys could just say a prayer for me, that would be excellent. God has placed some big decisions in my life and I'm not sure which direction to go in. Thank you sooo much! :)
Psalm 32:8 - I will instruct you (says the Lord) and guide you along the best pathway for your life; I will advise you and watch your progress.
Outfit details - Dress, 50 cents (garage sale) - Vest, 75 cents (garage sale, bought these items the same day at different sales!) - Jeggings, $20 (max&miley) - bracelets with the beads are homemade and the silver one was found in my drawer from a mysterious location! - necklace, $1 (claire's)

I'd rather pick flowers instead of fights

title from the lyrics, Dental Care by Owl City
I've been trying to teach myself simple photo edits that I can do on my own (aka, not using Picnik or a random downloaded program) and I was able to find some great tutorials that I can use with my GIMP! My very favorite kind of photos are those that are cross-processed, so I was delighted when I came across this tutorial.
Anywho, today mom and I went back to that thrift store I mentioned before, this time we brought my sister. I reconsidered some things and went ahead and splurged the whole $1. I got 2 skirts (both came with matching scarfs) and a plain white men's v-neck (which was actually only a quarter). One skirt didn't fit so I'm going to pass it along to Easter Seals, but I'm keeping the scarf and am coming up with something neat to make out of it!

I have a quick clothing question, as I seem to be drawn to wearing clothes everyday. I have a huge obsession with tunics/short dresses/and long tee's, but they are much to short to wear with just a pair of tights, yet shorts always look dorky and jeans are.. not going there. The only options I can come up with are these jeggings, which I wear too much and perhaps leggings. Are there any options out there I'm not thinking of? Is there really a flattering short that goes well with tunics? All comments are much appreciated. :)

Outfit details - Dress, homemade from mom's dress - Sweater, $1 (wal-mart) - Jeggings, $20 (max&miley) - bracelets, something I had to have when I was about 10 years old. I'd guess they came from Wal-Mart. - Broach, my great grandma's.

Today is National Thrift Shop Day! Did any of you go out thrifting and find anything awesome, or perhaps what is the best deal you've ever gotten at a thrift/consignment shop?

Bonding Fire

 Outfit at the start -

Outfit without the scarf -
Outfit close-up -

Outfit accessories -

Outfit final going out look -

So I kind of got frustrated with getting dressed today. Dontchya hate that?! I'm not even completely satisfied with the finished look. It's a very high fat outfit. A plaid that keeps clinging to my rolls and jeans that are slightly too big.
But life goes on! In fact, I gotta go! I got a bonfire to attend with my friends. :)

Outfit details - Sweater, free (jeans for Jesus) - tee, $1 (max&miley!) - jeans, $4 (thrifted) - mocs, $1 (wal-mart) - necklace, $1 (bargain depot) - plaid shirt >$3 (thrifted) - earring, homemade! - bracelet, not sure.. I just found it!

Red Hot

I thought today was going to be chill, but I was way wrong. Walking outside in a slouchy beret, scarf, and jeans was really risky. I ended up being warm but stayed in enough a/c buildings for it to not be so bad.
My mom and I went downtown and walked around like tourists. It's not something I usually do, unless I really am visiting a new town. But we have seen ads for a thrift store in town and felt like it was a shifty business and weren't sure about it, but this week they had $1 clothing. I cannot resist such a sale. We walked in and the place was nice, small but nice. There was an older gentlemen running the place and he must of had his granddaughter there helping out. Nice selection of clothing but all the things I wanted were not in my size! Oh well, now that I know the place exists I will definitely check in more often.

Outfit details - Red tee, $3? (Wet Seal, my sister bought them and there was a special) - Black jumper, a couple dollars (Shop-Ko) - Vest, $11 (XXI, yep I wore it again!) - Jeans, $5 (wal-mart) - Scarf, 75 cents (thrifted) - Earrings, gift? -Gladiators, 75 cents (wal-mart) - Beret, $5 (wal-mart, it was a splurge for sure haha)

Hey! Did you know that today is National Garage Sale today? Well, it is!

Pocketful of Sunshine

Tonight I'm going out to say farewell to friend of mine going off to college. She's going to be a junior but she's super nervous because she's going to be an RA this year!
Another one of my friends' mom has a small store-like place running in her basement. It's not quite a store, because everything is free and donated. It's called Jeans For Jesus. It's a pretty simple concept, you can donate clothes and other handy household items and then you can go and shop around for things you need (tons of clothes) and have them for free. You don't have to be in troubled place to come, or attend our church, everyone is welcome! It's probably my new favorite place to go for old clothes. I have been donating my clothes there for the past few months, like huge bag fulls, I keep her in business. lol, anywho! I got these shorts from Jeans For Jesus.
They are soo incredibly comfy! They're made of a really light weight material and they have the prettiest floral. (perfect for Summer) Me-a-year-ago would not have picked them up, but nowadays I like to take little fashion risks like this.
You're probably wondering what the heck is painted on my toe nails this time. Well, I had this grand plan of paint buckets with spilled paint. It pretty much does not look like that, but it turned out kind of neat anyways!

Outfit details - Black v-neck, $3 (Wal-Mart) - White sweater, $2.50 (thrifted) - Shorts, $0 (Jeans for Jesus) - Ladybug necklace, gift - Earrings, ?? (thrifted) - Gladitors, $.75 cents (Wal-Mart)

All I've Got is a Photograph

lyric from "Photograph" by Def Leppard
Nifty new way to add photos from Flickr to here! Took me like 10 minutes to figure it out, but overall, pretty easy!
Today out of boredom I went grocery shopping with my mom, she also bought me lunch. I actually chickened out and wore jeans, but I wore shorts for the photos! There are still times when I look at my legs and think there is enough cottage cheese on them to feed a family of 5 for a week. But, ha, they are mine and I love them. :)
The other half of this lovely Saturday was spent playing Sims 2, ahhh, perfect!

This morning mom and I ran to a garage sale and I picked up another Polaroid camera. I know what you're thinking, "gosh another one?!". Well, somehow the first one broke. :(
Back to this one! I outdid myself. This camera was $1 (cheeeeap!) but then the lady said everything was half off (50 cents, dang good deal) BUT WAIT! After getting home, I checked out the film and there was 8 photos still left in it. :O OH MY WORD!!
The price of this film alone is $1 a picture, I just got $8 worth of pictures for a super good price. I'm going to try really hard not to break this one, keep it in a glass case or something. I'm actually afraid to take a picture with it, haha, I feel like nothing is good enough for a Polaroid photo.

Outfit details - Purple Vneck, $1 (thrifted) - Vest, $1 (thrifted) - Scarf, $2.50 (gift) - Shorts, $7 (farm'n'fleet) - Gladiators, .75 cents (wal-mart) - bracelets ?? - Earring, .50 cents (half of a pair that I got for $1 at Claire's)

(p.s., I was messing around with a new photo editor I found, is it too much for outfit pictures since it womps up the color, or is it ok? I'm fine either way.)
